Where the whole thing started in 1964
Joseph A. Delmore opened Moreland Hose and Belting in Hempstead in 1964, and this has been the centre of the business ever since. Sixty years later it is still the busiest of the two shops and still the one most fleet and contractor work comes through.
What it is not is a parts counter with a catalogue and a stockroom out back. Ten thousand square feet of it is a working fabrication shop. Crimping machines, cut-off saws, hose on racks from floor to ceiling and tens of thousands of fittings on the wall behind the counter. Walk in with a failed assembly and in most cases you walk out with the replacement.
The counter staff are the reason it works. Every one of our salespeople worked this counter for years before doing anything else, which means thread identification, hose selection and knowing what a machine actually needs come from having built the assemblies rather than from a product sheet.

Off Peninsula Boulevard, close to both the Meadowbrook and the Southern State. Pick your approach for the detail.
From the Southern State
Come off toward Hempstead and pick up Peninsula Boulevard heading south. Adams Avenue runs off it, and the shop is a short way along. The parkway exits put you within a few minutes either way, which is why this is the usual approach for anyone coming from the east or the west of the county.

Everything below is here, not ordered in. That is the whole point of the shop being this size.
1/8 inch to 2 inch, to 6,000 psi
One and two wire braid through four and six spiral, crimped on calibrated equipment. See hydraulic hoses.
3/16 inch through 18 inch
Suction, discharge, chemical, steam, ducting and material handling, with banded and cam and groove ends fitted here. See industrial hoses.
A/C, brake, fuel and steering
Barrier A/C hose beadlocked to your original fittings, DOT brake and hard line formed from a sample, power steering built to length.
Tens of thousands of fittings

Nassau, Queens and the boroughs
Nassau fleets and contractors
Vacuum trucks on municipal contracts, construction equipment working crowded sites, repair shops and highway departments. The shop sits in the middle of the county, so Elmont, Valley Stream, Garden City, Uniondale, East Meadow, Hicksville and Levittown are all short runs.
Queens and the JFK area
Close enough to be an emergency parts source rather than a planned trip. Plenty of Queens fleets treat this counter as their hose supplier because the local option does not stock the fitting when it matters.
Brooklyn, the Bronx and Manhattan
Out through the Belt or the Southern State. Worth a call ahead on anything unusual so the assembly is ready rather than started when you arrive, and worth talking about held stock if you are making the run regularly.

Before You Come
Common questions
No for standard work. It is a walk-in counter and jobs go in the order they arrive. Call ahead if the assembly is unusual, very large bore, or you are driving in from Brooklyn or the Bronx, because a two minute call beats finding out after an hour on the Belt.
The failed assembly with both ends still attached, if you can get it off. It tells us the thread standard, the seat angle, the orientation and the length in seconds. A photo of how the hose routed before you removed it helps too. If the part cannot come off the machine, bring the machine details and clear photos of both ports.
Standard hydraulic and industrial assemblies are usually finished while you wait, and customers regularly leave inside twenty minutes. Larger bore, flange ends or anything that has to be brought in takes longer, and we will tell you that before you settle in rather than after.
Yes, 8am to 12pm. Sundays are closed. The Saturday morning exists because equipment fails on Fridays and fleet operators need somewhere to go before Monday.
Street parking on Adams Avenue. Most customers pull up, bring the hose in and are back out shortly after, so it turns over quickly. If you are arriving in something large, mention it when you call and we will tell you the easiest way in.
