AN Fittings
for Racing, Restoration,
and Custom Builds

AN fittings, Army-Navy standard fittings, were designed for aircraft and military applications where fluid connections had to hold under extreme pressure and vibration. The racing world figured that out fast, and they’ve been the go-to choice for high-performance fuel systems, oil lines, and brake lines ever since. If you’re building a race car, restoring a classic, or putting together a custom hydraulic system on anything that moves, AN fittings give you precise, leak-free connections that don’t fail when it gets hot or loud.

We carry the full AN size range from AN-3 (3/16″ line) through AN-16 (1″ line), in straight, 45-degree, and 90-degree configurations. Aluminum fittings for weight-conscious builds, stainless for anything dealing with harsh fluids or high heat, and steel for heavier-duty industrial applications. If you’re not sure which you need, bring in the old fitting or describe the application and we’ll point you in the right direction.

AN Fitting
Size Chart
AN-3 Through AN-16

Every AN size corresponds to a specific hose inner diameter and thread specification. Getting this wrong means a fitting that leaks or won’t seat, and neither of which you want on a fuel line. Here’s the breakdown of the sizes we stock:

  • AN-3 — 3/16″ inner diameter, 3/8″-24 thread
  • AN-4 — 1/4″ inner diameter, 7/16″-20 thread
  • AN-6 — 3/8″ inner diameter, 9/16″-18 thread
  • AN-8 — 1/2″ inner diameter, 3/4″-16 thread
  • AN-10 — 5/8″ inner diameter, 7/8″-14 thread
  • AN-12 — 3/4″ inner diameter, 1-1/16″-12 thread
  • AN-16 — 1″ inner diameter, 1-5/16″-12 thread

AN-3, AN-4, and AN-6 are the most common sizes for brake lines and instrumentation. AN-6, AN-8, and AN-10 handle most fuel and oil system work. AN-12 and AN-16 show up in larger cooling lines and hydraulic systems. We’ll have them all.

What
AN Fittings
Are Used For

The applications are wider than most people expect. Performance and racing use cases get the most attention, but AN fittings show up in plenty of industrial and specialty builds too. Fuel systems are the most common. They handle gasoline, ethanol, diesel, and E85 without degrading. Oil lines, coolant lines, and transmission coolers on track cars and hot rods. Brake lines on vehicles where you want the confidence of a 37-degree flare connection instead of a compression fitting. Power steering systems on performance builds. Turbo oil feed and return lines. Even AC system lines on some specialty rebuilds.

If you’re putting braided stainless steel hose on your project, AN fittings are what make those assemblies work. We can build the complete assembly here, or sell you the fittings and hose separately if you’re crimping or swaging them yourself. Either way, we’ll make sure the sizes match and the configuration makes sense for your application. If the project also involves fuel lines, check out what we carry there.

Project Trucks
Restorations,
and One-Off Builds

A lot of our AN fitting customers aren’t fleet guys. They’re the guys building something on the weekends. A ’69 Camaro with a built LS swap. A diesel pickup getting a performance fuel system. A custom off-road rig that needs lines routed in places the factory never planned for. These projects need AN fittings that are actually in stock, not backordered six weeks from an online retailer.

We’re in Hempstead, so if you’re out in Nassau County or making the trip from Queens or Brooklyn, you can come in, look at what we have, and leave with everything you need that same day. Bring the old fitting if you have it. Bring a photo if that’s all you’ve got. We’ve seen enough of these projects that we can usually figure out what you’re working with and get you sorted out without the runaround.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

AN fittings use a 37-degree flare seat, which is different from the 45-degree flare on standard automotive fittings and different still from the straight-thread or NPT connections common in industrial hydraulic systems. This matters because the seat angle determines the seal. Mixing AN fittings with non-AN hardware causes leaks. AN fittings are designed for high-pressure fluid transfer in performance, aerospace, and racing applications. If you’re building or repairing a system that uses AN components, everything in that line should be AN-spec.

Yes. If you need a braided stainless hose assembled with AN ends on both sides, we can put that together here in the shop. Bring in the old hose to match the length, or give us the measurements and tell us what’s on each end. Most AN assemblies take 20 to 30 minutes. We stock braided stainless steel hose in the sizes that mate with standard AN fittings, so you won’t need to source the hose separately.

Yes, fuel system work is one of the most common AN fitting applications we see. AN-6 through AN-10 covers the majority of fuel line and return line work on performance builds. We stock aluminum fittings compatible with gasoline, diesel, and E85, plus the stainless option for higher-heat environments like turbo fuel rails. If you’re rebuilding the fuel lines on a project truck or race car out of Nassau County or the five boroughs, come in and we’ll have what you need.
