Suffolk County

Hose supplier in Suffolk County

Our Oakdale shop sits on Sunrise Highway in the middle of the western half, which covers most of the county comfortably. Out toward the forks the honest answer changes, and this page says what it is.

Worth knowingSuffolk runs about eighty-six miles end to end. Montauk is further from Oakdale than Oakdale is from Manhattan.

The Geography

Suffolk is not a county you cover with one address

The short versionNassau is twenty minutes wide. Suffolk is a two hour drive end to end, and pretending otherwise helps nobody.

Most suppliers claim Suffolk the same way they claim Nassau, as though a single line on a map settles it. It does not. The county stretches roughly eighty-six miles from the Nassau line out to Montauk, and a customer in Amityville and a customer in Greenport have almost nothing in common except a county name.

The Oakdale shop was opened to fix the western two thirds of that problem. Fifteen thousand square feet directly on Sunrise Highway, which puts Islip, Babylon, Brookhaven and most of Smithtown within a comfortable run. For that stretch of the county, driving in and having the assembly built while you wait is straightforwardly the fastest option available.

East of Riverhead the arithmetic changes and we would rather say so. From the forks the drive is real, and on a machine that is already down it may not be the right answer at all. What works out there is holding stock, which is a service we run properly rather than as an afterthought.

The rest of this page splits the county by how far you actually are, and gives the honest recommendation for each.

Where You Are

Drive in, or have it on your shelf?

Pick your part of the county. The recommendation genuinely changes, and on two of these it is not to drive.

Run to Oakdale Under 15 min

Home ground for the shop. Nothing here is far enough to plan around.

Just drive in

Walk in with it

You are close enough that there is no decision to make. Bring the failed assembly to the counter, no appointment, and in most cases it is measured, built, crimped and tested before you leave. Call ahead only for very large bore or something unusual.

Who Comes In

What Suffolk runs on

A broader mix than Nassau, because the county has room for industries Nassau ran out of space for decades ago.

Waterfront

Marinas and boatyards

The south shore run from Babylon out past Patchogue, plus the north shore harbours. Hydraulic steering, USCG fuel hose, exhaust and fill, and stainless fittings that survive the salt. The busiest thing this shop does that Hempstead does not.

Municipal

Town and district fleets

Ten towns, dozens of villages and a lot of special districts, all running sanitation, sewer, vac and highway equipment. Suction and discharge assemblies on these are consumables, and a parked truck costs a district money every hour.

Construction

Contractors and dewatering

Excavators, loaders, breakers and pumps, with more ground to work on than Nassau and more excavation to keep dry. Pump sets get built here as matched suction and discharge pairs rather than sold as two similar hoses.

Agriculture

Farms, vineyards and nurseries

The North Fork and the eastern townships run tractors, sprayers, irrigation and loaders that nobody else on Long Island has to think about. Seasonal, hard on equipment, and unforgiving about timing when a crop is waiting.

Environmental

Septic, sewer and waste

Suffolk has far more septic and cesspool work than Nassau, which means a lot of vac trucks and jetters. Suction hose, jetter line and cam and groove couplings move steadily through this counter.

Grounds

Landscaping and tree crews

Chippers, stump grinders, aerial lifts and dump bodies, across a county with a great deal more property to maintain. Seasonal peaks, and usually needed the same morning.

The Shop

The larger of the two buildings

Fifteen thousand square feet with its own crimping machines, cut-off saws and wall of fittings. Hydraulic from 1/8 inch to 2 inch up to 6,000 psi, industrial from 3/16 inch through 18 inch, plus the marine and automotive ranges.

Nothing gets sent west to be finished. Full detail on the Oakdale shop.

If the drive does not work

For operations out east, or anyone who simply cannot lose the time, the answer is stock rather than mileage. We set levels around what you actually consume, keep the specification on file so reorders never need measuring again, and hold dedicated inventory of critical parts here rather than on your budget.

Spare sets get built ahead of the season rather than during it, which matters when your busy period and your failure rate are the same six weeks.

Common Questions

Before you drive over

Customers come in from the forks regularly, so yes, but we will not pretend it is a short trip. From Southampton or Greenport it is a real run and on a machine that is already down it may be the wrong call. What works out there is holding spares, and it is worth a conversation rather than a drive.

Come In

Straight off Sunrise Highway

Open from half seven Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings. If the drive is long, ask about holding stock instead.
