Custom hose fabrication on Long Island
Custom hose fabrication means the assembly gets built for your machine rather than pulled off a shelf. Bring in the failed hose or the measurements, and in most cases it is cut, fitted, crimped and tested at the counter before you leave.
What It Means
A hose built for the machine, not the catalog
Most hose failures do not have a part number waiting for them. The length is wrong, the fittings are a combination nobody stocks, the machine is old enough that the manufacturer stopped supporting it, or the original was already a custom piece when it went on.
Fabrication solves that at the counter. We measure the old assembly or work from your specification, select hose with the right liner and reinforcement for what runs through it, orient the fittings the way the machine needs them, and crimp on equipment calibrated to the fitting. The result is a hose that fits the first time, which matters more than anything else when a machine is already down.
Moreland has done this on Long Island since 1964. Every employee is certified in hydraulic hose assembly, and every salesperson worked the counter for years before they sold anything, so the conversation starts with pressure rating, thread type and application rather than a part number you may not have.

The Process
How a fabrication job actually runs
There is no quoting process and no purchase order. The counter is the whole workflow, which is why most people are back on the road the same visit.
Bring the old assembly, fittings and all
The failed hose is the most useful thing you can carry through the door. The ends tell us thread type, seat angle and orientation faster than any description over the phone, and in a lot of cases the original fittings go straight back on the new hose.
If the part cannot come off the machine, a photo taken before removal works. Tell us the equipment and the circuit and we can work backwards from there.
Specified, built and crimped at the counter
Hose is chosen for working pressure and for what runs through the line, because the wrong liner fails early even at the correct pressure. It gets cut to length across the fittings rather than the rubber alone, the ends are oriented the way the machine needs them, and the crimp is set on equipment calibrated to that fitting.

Tested before it leaves the building
Assemblies are checked before they go out the door. A line that lets go in the field comes straight back to this counter, so there is no version of this where testing gets skipped to save five minutes.

When You Need It
Signs the hose has to be built rather than bought
Most people arrive here after calling three suppliers who could not help. These are the situations that send them.
The part is discontinued
The manufacturer stopped making it, or the machine is old enough that nobody lists it anymore. Bring the old one in and it gets matched.
The length does not exist
Off-the-shelf hose comes in set lengths. Routing rarely cooperates. A fabricated assembly is cut to the length the machine actually needs.
The fitting combination is odd
Different threads at each end, an unusual seat angle, or a swivel where the catalog assumes a fixed end. Common on retrofits and engine swaps.
The original was already custom
Plenty of equipment left the factory with a purpose-built line on it. Replacing it means building it again rather than ordering it.
The medium changed
A line that carried one fluid and now carries another needs a different liner. Pressure rating alone will not keep it from failing early.
You cannot wait two weeks
The alternative is usually a backorder. When equipment is idle, a hose built this afternoon beats the correct part number arriving next month.

Common questions
Most standard hydraulic and industrial assemblies are finished at the counter while you wait, and customers regularly walk out inside twenty minutes. Very large diameters, unusual fittings or anything that has to be brought in will take longer, and we tell you that before you decide to wait rather than after.
No. Bring the failed assembly with the fittings still attached and we work backwards from it. If you have the working pressure off the hose layline that helps, but a worn layline is normal. Telling us the machine, the circuit and what runs through the line is enough to size it correctly.
Yes, and it is some of the most common work at this counter. Discontinued brake tubes, forty year old air conditioning lines and power steering hoses for engine swaps all get rebuilt from the original part. Where the existing ends are sound they usually go back on the new hose.
Yes. We crimp on your hose or on hose off our shelf. What matters is that the hose, the fitting and the crimp specification match, which is why the counter asks about working pressure and thread type before anything gets cut. See custom hose assembly for how that side of it works.
No. Both shops are walk-in counters and work is handled in the order people arrive. Mornings are usually the quietest stretch at Hempstead. If you are chasing something unusual, call ahead and we will confirm it is on the shelf before you make the drive.
